What Makes a City Claim Different
City cases more often involve a public defendant. A collision with a city bus, a fall on a sidewalk, or an incident on transit property brings in a municipality or a public authority, and those claims require a formal notice before suit that is far shorter than the ordinary limitations period. Sidewalk liability in the City is governed by N.Y.C. Administrative Code 7-210, which shifted responsibility for most sidewalks to the abutting property owner rather than the City, so identifying the correct defendant is itself part of the early work.

For motor vehicle injuries, no-fault benefits cover treatment and a portion of lost earnings without regard to fault.
